Hi please explain what hyaline + in a urine sample means. I am 17 weeks pregnant and have had a repeat test with my obstetrician, but he has not given me the next result simply asked for a third test and then said I may need antibiotics. Does it have any future effects on my kidneys please Thanks
Hi, The test results are positive for hyaline casts. The presence of 0-2 hyaline casts are considered normal. Increased numbers of hyaline casts is seen in physiological conditions like strenuous exercise, dehydration, heat exposure and emotional stress. Few pathological conditions, it is increased are acute glomerulonephritis and pyelonephritis. If there are associated findings like presence of increased WBC in urine, then antibiotics might be necessary. Hyaline casts alone does not indicate any infection and is normal. You need not worry about it. Any further queries, happy to help again.
