What Does Pinkish Discharge After Urination Indicate?

I am a 48 yr old Type 1 Diabetic, going through pre- menopause, so I do not have periods anymore. I sometimes get a urge to push at the end of urination and when I wipe, I notice a pink color on my toilet tissue. Do you have any idea what this could be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms can be related to an urinary tract infection. I suggest to do a urine test and an abdominal ultrasound for further evaluation. Meanwhile I suggest using anti inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen 400 mg. I also recommend to use cranberry juice for antibacterial properties. If the diagnosis is confirmed, antibiotics may be needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
