What Does Pain While Swallowing Indicate?

I yawned really hard the other day and I heard and felt a pop in my throat. Immediately afterwards I had a sensation of a lump just under my Adam’s apple. It hurt to swallow for a few days and even my neck was sore to touch and swollen from Adam’s apple down. It’s starting to feel better and swallowing doesn’t hurt as much. Could I have pulled a muscle below my throat, which then was just sore for a while? The pain and swelling are almost gone now.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, chances are there that in killians dehiscence between the constrictors of pharynx, there could be herniation of the contents because it is the weakest point. So, we need to examine you by indirect laryngoscopy to know if you have any herniation or pulled a muscle or joint dislodgement or something anywhere in the course.

If we could find anything then the treatment will be possible. So, kindly get laryngoscopy done to rule out the above condition.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Archana
