What Does Pain On The Left Side Of The Head Upon Sneezing Indicate?

I am in my 60s and have been very healthy all of my life. I ve been having headaches for 6+ months, over the counter drugs don t help. I don t have a constant headache, but if I sneeze, bend over, laugh hard, yell, etc, the pain is severe and is located somewhere inside the left area of my head - if you were to point from my left eye, my left nostril and over my left ear and point inward.... it s somewhere in there. Sometimes I get a full blown headache that persists for hours. Sometimes not. Most of the time my symptoms consist of the headaches, but more Recently, I have also experienced nausea/dizziness and generally feel lousy.... sort of like how you might feel if you hyperventilate. I ve been to my PCP 3 times, they ve recommended I go back on Wellbutrin, that was back in April, I m still on that med without any relief. They prescribed a 7 day antibiotic for sinus infection and recommended the use of Flonase back in May, no resolution. I also take Alerclear for allergies every day, but that s it, no other meds. My doctor says that the symptoms I describe are not consistent with a brain tumor. I wonder if it might be polyps in the sinus area.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, possibility of Sinus related diseases is more likely. So in my opinion, you should definitely consult ENT doctor and get done endoscopic examination and CT scan of paranasal sinuses. If this is normal then no need to worry for Sinus diseases. You might also need MRI brain to rule out brain pathology. If this is also normal then possibility of migraine like headache is more likely.
So avoid stress and tension, be relax and calm. Drink plenty of fluids orally and keep yourself hydrated. Take propranolol and flunarizine combination at night. Take sound sleep of 6-8 hours. Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
