What Does Pain In The Toe Indicate?

I dropped 3 28oz cans on my right foot pain 4 small toes to right of great toe........have been using ice and an ace bandage.........very sore when walking on foot and applying pressure to instep. Other than x-rays, how can I tell if there is a break??

Though swelling &persistant pain,,failure to recover, inability to mive the part ...suggest possible fracture,Xray isa confirmatory test &also tells about type of fracture... which helps choosing specific treatment.
