What Does Pain In The Rib Cage On The Left Side Indicate?

I have extreme pain in the left side of my rib cage. When I cough it really hurts. It does not hurt to breath like. in plurisy(sp) , as I have had this before. I am on 2 cholesterol medications and have been for years. I have regular blood work done. The pain feels like a broken rib but, I have done nothing that would cause this. Just coughing.

I feel that you would benefit from having a chest x-ray done. It would help identify any injuries and also if anything pathological is present(especially since you have a cough).
