What Does Pain In The Lower Back And Hips Indicate?

I have been having pain in my lower back and Hip for 8 months after hurting it at work. I was originally treated for a lumbar strain and lumbar disc herniation. Now, pain management tried an SI joint injection, which helped for 4 days. I ve been through injections, PT, and have been on percocet, which gives me relief, but is not a long term solution. Does it sound like surgery may be necessary?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per your clinical history is concerned, please follow like this:

1) Do take all prescribed medication as per your Doctor's advice.

2) Do a clinical examination by your Doctor [neurologist] and do one [MRI scan and myelogram] to know present status.

3) Do check if you have [Numbness or weakness, Difficulty standing or walking and Loss of bladder or bowel control], if present, then surgical treatment will be considered and if not, then conservative treatment is the choice.

Do follow lifestyle modifications like this:

1) Do exercise regularly. Strengthening the trunk muscles helps stabilize and support the spine.

2) Try to maintain good posture. Good posture reduces the pressure on your spine and disks. Keep your back straight and aligned, particularly when sitting for long periods. Lift heavy objects properly, making your legs, not your back do most of the work.

3) Try to maintain a healthy weight. Excess weight puts more pressure on the spine and disks.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
