What Does Pain In The Knees Indicate?

I am having pain in my knee when I try to squat down. The pain is sharp at the back of my knee and then when I stand back up the front of the knee has a stinging feeling and a wet feeling if that makes any sense. Then it has a lingering ache. What can it be?
