What Does Pain In The Finger After An IV Administration Indicate?

My wife was hospitalized approx. 3 1/2 weeks ago and had an IV in the top of her hand. She had some pain in the finger connected to that vein for several days, and now today the vein is pronounced on the top of her hand and very hard. Is this something to be concerned about? We are holding for Kaiser, however, the wait is 45 minutes and if this is something I should take her to emergency for, I d rather do that now than later. Thank you.

Your symptoms can be related to IV infiltration which is the diffusion or accumulation of foreign substances or in amounts more than normal.
