What Does Pain In The Chest Upon Breathing Indicate?

Sometimes I feel pain in my lung when I breath in, I have to keep taking deep breaths until I feel a sort of pop, then the pain is gone. It happens randomly and it happens to both lungs, never at the same time. And it happens probably about every other month or so. And it has been happening for years now. I do smoke now, but it was happening to me before I ever smoked. What does this mean? Have you ever heard of this before? I m a 39 yo female. In great health otherwise.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It seems to be due to pleural adhesions caused by past pleural infection/reaction. CT chest will clarify.

Regards,
Dr. T.K. Biswas M.D.
