What Does Pain Behind The Knee Cap Indicate?

hi, i am a teen girl who plays three sports year round. i have experienced pain behind my kneecap, behind my knee, and on the bone the the outside side of my ankle when i run. i was previously diagnosed with a strained hamstring, but that only answered the pain in the back of my knee, not my kneecap or ankle. my running shoes didn’t provide much support, so i had previously had problems with my achilles’ tendon, which was solved with more arch support. i was wondering what is wrong with my knee and ankle though.

Hello,

If there is any ligament tear in the knee, then you will have those pains. Since you are a sports person, you are at risk for any kind of injury.

I recommend you to get an MRI done to rule out if you have any ligament tear or tendonitis or any fracture. If there is nothing then minor injury would heal on its own.

For now, you can be on any painkillers for 3 to 5 days. Kindly get back to us with the reports.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Archana
