What Does Numbness In The Right Arm Indicate?

Yesterday morning at about 5 am needing to use the bathroom and when I got to the bathroom I could'nt even lift my right arm high enough to turn the light on. I figured my arm had gone to sleep also. I used the bathroom and went back to bed and sleep. I woke up again around 9:30 am and noticed no change in my arm. It was still tingling and I could'nt control it very well at all. This continued throughout the day although it did seem that I had a little better use of it throughout the day. Today I woke up with no improvement and I'm concerned. I still have some tingling and can't control movement or use of it very well at all. what could I be looking at here?

hey
generally it is very transient when you sleep on the arm to feel this way since the blood supply of the arm gets restricted due to compression of blood vessel
and it gets completely resolved in a couple of minutes
but since in your case it is persisting you it’s calls for evaluation
you should get a colour Doppler for your both hands and legs to see if there is any partial obstruction in your blood vessel and if there is than depends on the degree of occlusion
if it’s around 60 percent you can manage with medicines like blood thinners and thrombolytics
if more than you need to see a vascular surgeon as the condition will worsen with age
intervention may be needed if the occlusion is more

but don’t worry even if it’s more than 60 percent you can get back to completely normal by intervention

also since you might have a tendency to develop occlusion if at all there is than you should get your self regularly checked
serum cholesterol levels
and start appropriate treatment

feel free to ask any follow up questions
