What Does Nausea Along With Vomiting And Blood In Urine Indicate?

Hello, my roommate is having moderate right sided flank pain, nausea and vomiting, and difficulty urinating for the past 3 days. He noticed what looked like blood in his urine once the second day of his symptoms but hasn t seen it again since. He went into the ED last night and was there for about 5 hours and they told him he was just dehydrated and sent him home with a prescription for Zofran. I am an EMT and i do believe that there is something other going on than just dehydration, possibly UTI or kidney stones? Can you shed some light on this for me of give me some advice to help my roommate out, he is very ill.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I would recommend complete urine examination and abdomino-pelvic USG (Ultrasonography).

From his symptoms, it seems as if either a urinary tract stone or UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) or both are causing his symptoms.

The above mentioned tests will guide the treatment. Drinking lots of water is recommended, if he can pass urine and no obstruction.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Noora
