What Does My PET Scan Report For Vaginal Cancer Suggest?

I just had a PET scan for follow up for vaginal cancer. The report came back with this: linear moderately increased FDG uptake in the midline in the region of the lower vagina has no definite associated mass on CT and has a maximum standardized uptake value (SUV) of 6.8 Could this be caused by a minor tear (Fistula) between vagina and bladder? I do have a yellow discharge (small amount) most days.

Radiologist 's  Response
Hi,

It is looking like an active metabolic process in the tissues of the vagina area. A tear is not likely to cause such a finding. A biopsy might be needed to confirm the cause.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vivek Chail, Radiologist
