Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I I am 65 year old female with MRI Brain W and WO contrast. Need help understanding findings: Generalized atrophy, age concordat with mild confluent periventricular white matter T2 hyperintensity and a few scattered nonspecific white matter T2hyperintensities in the deep white matter tracts but rather minimal. These are nonspecific and may be due to chronic Microvascular ischemia/scoliosis but can be secondary to demyelinating process, vasculitis or associated with migraine headaches. There are no areas of abnormal increased signal on diffusion-weighted images to suggest acute or subacute infarction. No parenchyma hemmorrhage seen. There is no mass or midline shift is seen or abnormal area parenchyma or meningeal contrast enhancement. Normal flow signal void is seen within the major intracranial arteries. The visualized portions of the paranasal sinuses and mastoid air cells are well aerated. Impression: generalized atrophy and mild periventricular leukomalacia. No acute process identified.
As the reports indicate that this is more of the ageing process and nothing major. Due to aging, the brain tissue will have some of the findings but we need to correlate all of it with the clinical findings. Since many areas of the brain are sounding normal as per age I don't think any major complains you may be providing. The cranial nerves are ok, the brain stem is ok, the ventricles are ok. Some demyelination is there but that is normal for the age. Also, some mild periventricular leukomalacia is there but that is due to blood flow.
I think you should consider the neurologist opinion for the medication and then he might refer you to a physiotherapist. With exercise, things can be better anytime. Including the signs and symptoms due to neurological deficits. Body is a medicine of its own and it needs assistance via medicine and exercise to recover better.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
