What Does My MRI Scan Indicate?

My husband has had MRI done since 2007 Once again a area of increased signal is noted in the medical aspect of the right temporal lobe, anteriorly, in the subcortical white matter. I m today s examination the area of concern measures 8.5mm x 11mm. Just lateral to this there is a second 4mm T2 hyper intensity. The appearance is quite similar to the examination from 2010. On review of image dating back to 2007 there has been a gradual increase in the size of this T2 abnormality. There is no evidence of positive mass effect. There are no new areas of abnormality identified. My question is what does this mean and how concern should we be? Thanks Jody

Welcome to health care magic.

1.The report suggest there is a hyper intense area seen in the right temporal region anteriorly - possible old infarct.
2.Which is seen hyper in T2W and FLAIR studies. Which is seen increased in size in followup studies.
3.The possibilities with the above findings are small vessel ischemic disease.
4.Depending upon the findings needs to compare with the other sequences and contrast studies.
5.Depending on the clinical condition i would suggest a contrast study to rule out certain things and definitive diagnosis.

Good luck.
