What Does Mild Prominence Of The Central Canal Mean?

My newborn had an ultrasound done on her spine because she had a sacral dimple. The ultrasound came back normal but the description of the Conus position: Normal position at L2. Mild prominence of the central canal of doubtful significance . What does this mean? The pediatrician said he went over the results with a neurosurgeon and everything looks almost fine but they want to order the MRI to be sure. What does this mean?

Welcome to health care magic.

1.There is a dimple at the lumbar region - that will suspect any congenital spinal abnormality.
2.This is usually seen at the time of the pregnancy scans itself, if it was significant.
3.The abnormality could be insignificant, in this case if baby is holding urine for a while and limb movement normal - things nothing much to worry in this case as emergency.
4.But MRI need to be done as to see the spinal chord, the covering - weather intact or not. Ultrasound do gives the information but definitive view can be seen in the MRI.
5.Do not worry - every doctor want to make sure there is no abnormality in the spine and spinal chord, if there which can be rectified. Hope the best.

Good luck.
