What Does Left Atrial Enlargement Suggest?

Had an EKG tonight for surgical clearance for a surgery I am having on Thursday. The print out read normal sinus rhythm, possible left atrial enlargement, rest or QR pattern in V1 suggests right ventricular conduction delay, borderline ECG. What does this mean? It does say to follow up with my regular primary dr within 2 days.

Welcome to Healthcare magic. Thank you for posting your query.
I can understand your concern.

Left atrial enlargement could be due to high blood pressure or even some cardiac pathology. An echocardiography is essential to find out the cause.

Coming to the right ventricular conduction delay.
The signals from the sinoatrial node reach the ventricles through the the bundle of His and its branches. The right bundle branch taking signals to the right ventricle can often have a conduction delay and the manifestation on ECG is called right bundle branch block (RBBB). It has a characteristic pattern on the ECG with an rSR’ pattern in the lead V1. Right bundle branch block can exist in the absence of any other significant heart disease and may not do much harm by itself. Right ventricular conduction delay can also be there in conditions in which the right ventricle is enlarged .

Do not worry.

I would suggest you to visit a cardiologist. He or she can examine you and correlate clinically.

Hope this helps.
