What Does High WBC Count During Pregnancy Indicate?

Hello I am 32 weeks pregnant and was just called from my doctor saying my white blood count is much higher than normal. It is currently at 19.5. I am waiting for my doctor to call me back because I have been hospitalized 3 times for severe kidney infections where I do not feel any symptoms until it gets really bad. I have never had a fever, not with my appendix rupturing or with kidney infections etc. so my body kind of reacts strangely to sickness and infection. I was also in the hospital 2 weeks ago with period like cramps for an entire day and they took blood tests there and said my WBC was higher and gave me an antibiotic IV. I got blood tests a week later for gestational diabetes and routine pregnancy tests and thats when WBC came back higher, even after antibotic. Is 19.5 really high and is it dangerous for my baby? Should I ask my doctor about getting more blood results sooner rather than later due to previous kidney infections etc? I m not sure what to do...

HI,
I understand your concern.
High white cell count suggests presence of infection in body.
You have urinary infection. in spite of all the treatment, the rise in blood count denotes inadequacy of treatment.
In case yours is a prolonged UTI , you should better consult a kidney specialist. You will be advised routine blood& urine work, urine culture & sensitivity test, may be X ray/sonography if needful.
An antibiotic based on sensitivty of organisms will be selected a7 prescribed for a sufficient time,so as to cure the infection. please stick to the advise given by specialist. It is better to take care kidney infection to avoid further complications in pregnancy.
Thanks
