What Does Hemaginomas Of Thoracic Spine In MRI Report Suggest?

i have been having severe mid back pain with alot of burning sensations for quite sometime. I ve had protuded discs in lower back since 2002, this I already knew. I had an MRI on 5-31-11 on thoracic spine the finds said had incidental hemangiomas noted in the upper to mid thoracic spine and upper lumbar spine. Could you please explain this to me. I ve researched and found out that they were benign tumors but can they become cancerous and could that be the cause of my back pain? said otherwise the scan was unremarkable. thank you.

Thanks for writing to HCM

Vertebral hemangiomas are benign vascular tumors.Majority of haemangiomas are incidentally found.
Majority are asymptomatic but it may be symptomatic and can present with back pain or spinal cord compression.

Mostly it doesn't require treatment.
When there is neurological deficits or severe pain,treatment is necessary.
There are many options and it includes radiotherapy,balloon kyphoplasty, transarterial embolisation etc.
Treatment options can be decided after consultation with neurosurgeon.
