What Does Generalized Cortical Atrophy On An MRI Report Indicate?

MRI Findings: There is generalized cortical atrophy. Mild to moderate chronic small vessel ischemic changes are noted within the deep white matter and bilat3ral cerebral depuncles. Impression: Generalized atrophy and sequelae of chronic small vessel ischemic disease. The nurse said my aunt s MRI was normal, yet above is the finding. Also, my 83 yr old aunt cannot comprehend new instructions or accept changes and constantly confuses her medicines.

Hi,

Hypertensive or diabetic patients may get repeated small vessels blocks in the brain it is called lacunar infracts. These infracts may be due to lipohylinogenic degeneration of end arteritis in the brain. Which may gives brain to shrink in size and these patients may prone to develop Alzheimer's disease.

So this patients may developing Alzheimer's disease may be due to multiple infracts. I think I answered to your question if you have more questions feel free to ask. Please consult your neurophysician he will examine and treat her accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
