What Does Coughing Up Of Green Phlegm Indicate?

I smoke marijuana for back pain. I have allergies and I been coughing up green mucus and my lungs tickle when I am not stoned. I have bipolar disorder and have been taking lithium for 30 years. I got lithium poisoning and now I been off of it for a couple of months. I was to a eyes, ear and throat doctor and she couldn t find anything wrong other than sinus allergies.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Green mucus would imply a lung infection like a bronchitis and is generally treated with antibiotics. Generally a beta lactam one with a bit broad spectrum such as ceftin. Sinus allergies MIGHT also cause green mucus. It certainly would cause some mucus. Treatment for that is about any anti-inflammatory. There are many of them from inhaled steroids to monteleukast.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
