What Does Blood In Urine After Catheterization Indicate?
my husband is in a snf and has blood in his urine. he is catherterized. the bleeding did not occur until sometime this afternoon. the facility s doctor has been called but has not yet responded. My husband is a stroke patient and has aphasia. how important is it that he see a doctor and how soon?

Bleeding is a documented complication of urinary catheter.
Just wash the catheter and see if its going to be stopped.
No need of emergency consultation if bleeding is not continous.
All that you to do is to send his urine for culture and sensitivity and do coagulation studies.
