What Does An Itchy Rash On The Wrist Indicate?

I have a rash on top of my wrist. It started out about the size of a pencil eraser with darkened dry and itchy skin. After six weeks of trying OTC topical ointments for eczema/psoriasis, the rash has increased in diameter. The itch is not as bad but the skins is dark and rough. My family doctor has referred me to a dermatologist. I m not encouraged to start that never-ending cycle of office visits and paper bags filled with prescriptions and instructions. My son was diagnosed with atopic dermatitis and my daughter eczema. So I have had my share of bills and prescriptions that did very little to help the situation. So, at this point I m considering using topical gentamicin to prevent infection and vitamin E oil to sooth and moisturize the area to promote healing of the cracked dry area of skin. Whatcha think?

Hello, Thanks for the query.
If the rash has increased in the size, with skin becoming rough and itchy, you may continue using topical steroid ointments (OTC ones). Plus use a moisturising cream which will help in making area soft. Using Gentamycin topically can give rise to more allergic reactions as there appears to be a history of atopy in the family. If these measures do not imrove the situation, then a visit to a dermatologist is better. Thanks.
