Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had what looked like a big pimple on my lower back, it was pretty painful. I attempted to pop it and within 4 days it had grown from pea size lump to larger than a half dollar. I went to the ER was seen by a med student who said she believed the hardness under the lump was inflammation. She said that I could probably get away with just antibiotics so they started me on Bactrim and Cephalexin. I am on my 7th and final day of antibiotics. It did go down in size significantly and the pain level is manageable. But now there is a yellow head on it again and it seems pretty deep and with light pressure it only oozes a little bit. Do I need to have this drained?
Hello there I have read through your question and would like to tell you that since you have already completed your course of antibiotics and the growth has still not subsided means that you have to get it drained. Don't try to press or squeeze it as it will increase the inflammation and may also lead to dissemination of the infection. You should get it examined by a surgeon and get it drained as soon as possible as you are already under antibiotic coverage and may be required to continue it for a few more days. I hope that answers your question. If you have any further questions please feel free to write. Thank you for choosing healthcare magic.
