What Does Ammonia Being 900 Present In Liver Suggest?
Dear Doctors,My grandpa has been unconscious for almost 8 days and the hospital at my city in Israel have made all the tests required to see what s going on with him. Unfortunately, all the reports were saying that he s alright and nothing is wrong with him. Today they had checked his liver and they discovered that he has ammonia and it s 900 and the doctor said it suppose to be 90 .. so can you please help me and tell me what can we do to wake him up and find a good cure for him ?

I appreciate your concern for your grandpa who seems to be suffering from coma due to liver failure. The treating doctors in your hospital will try to find out the cause of your grandpa's coma like infection or bleeding.
They will try to eliminate ammonia from the intestine because it can contribute to coma by using Lactulose - a laxative which it decreases the amount of ammonia that is absorbed by the body and antibiotics such as Rifaximin which can reduce the number of bacteria that form ammonia during digestion. With treatment, hepatic coma is frequently reversible.
