What Does A Small White Swollen Hot Lump On Foot Indicate?

my son started complaining about his foot today when i looked at the bottom of it there is a small white swollen hot lump. it appears that there is a sliver or something maybe and definetely infected. there is also a red line going from the lump all the way across his foot ..he wont walk on it but says it itches and its painful. im concerned that i shouldnt wait until morning because of this line ..

Hello,
Welcome to health care magic.
From your history and description, it seems that he could have a foreign body in this foot ( splinter,etc) which could be infected. It could also be an insect bite reaction which has got infected.
I suggest that you apply a topical antibiotic (2% mupirocin or 1% fusidic acid) 2- 3 times. He will need a course of oral antibiotics like cloxacillin or cephalexin.
You may have to look for a foreign body after the swelling has subsided.
