What does a red mole behind the leg indicate?

I have a red mole on the back of my leg that has grown larger over the years. It is larger than a pencil eraser. Years ago it began as a small brown mole and after many times of nicking it with razor while shaving my legs, it is now red and has been for 3 or 4 years and is much larger than when it appeared as a brown mole. What do think this is?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your case history you are having a hemangioma.
My treatment advice is -
1. Don't scratch the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a timolol eye drops om the lesion twice daily.
3. Other treatment options are cryotherapy, cauterization or laser ablation done by a dermato-surgeon.

Thanks.

Hi, a couple of years ago, I consulted with a dermatologist and ended up seeing her nurse practitioner. The NP proceeded to look at the numerous freckles and moles on my legs..and zapped one of my moles with what appeared to be a mini blow torch/laser. I have no history of melanoma, and nothing positive resulted from my tests at the time. Meanwhile, the area where she zapped on my right thigh (front) is the size of a pencil eraser head. It is red, and has never healed. I have tried all kinds of topical ointments. It s stays red, and won t heal . I have no other symptoms. It has not grown in size. What can I do to induce healing?

I noticed a red mark on my leg a week ago and now it s larger and has a couple of white patches. I m a 32 year-old, have an appointment with a dermatologist next Thursday but I don t want to go to the apt. Without having an idea of what it might be. Melanoma runs in my family. I ve had 2 dark moles removed years ago (non-cancerous). I ve never seen anything like this appear so fast and continue grow. Thank you
