What Does A Painful Bump On The Upper Lip Indicate?

Occasionally I get a bump on my upper lip. All of a sudden it gets very hard and painful. It is the size of an m & m. Then it disappears within 10 minutes. It just happened today and I put hot compresses on it and after it disappears I now have a bruise on it. This happens like 6 times a year. What is this....

It looks like it is either due to inflammation of the sebaceous gland or the oil gland that is present in abundance in that area.
Secondly, it can also be due to allergy to some unknown allergen.

So, next year if it happens consult in emergency room and get evaluated. You can also try taking anti-allergics like Allegra for relief.
