What Does A Painful Bump At The Base Of The Skull Indicate?

Good afternoon. I have a bump at the back of my head at the base of my scull. two days ago it felt like a tiny bruise, maybe from the way I slept. But it is getting bigger. It is now about two inches wide and about three inches long. It is soft and hurts to the touch. It is growing in size and I am getting headaches from that point up to my temples. I can feel it when I turn my head. Very painful. Constant pain today. Can you tell me what it is

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

What it appear is that if it is a corbuncle that is infection of the hair follicle. However, it must be confirmed after seeing it . I would advise you see your doctor so that he can see it and if it is corbuncle, he would advise some antibiotics. Abscess would be another possibility.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
