What Does A Lump At Incision Site Post A Lumbar Fusion Indicate?
I had a lumbar fusion on 2/8/16 at L5 and S1...in the last couple of days, I ve noticed a lump near the one incision. The lump sometimes grows in size and then gets smaller. There is some pain, but when I press on the lump, it feels like fluid and it s not painful when pressing on it just painful any other time. Should I contact my doctor about this or does this sound normal?
Hello , Welcome to HCM. Such lumps are not uncommon at incisional sites . In most of the cases these lumps are reaction of skin tissue to dissolvable suture material which settles with time . In some cases such lumps are due to the scarring in deep tissue which is painful and takes time to get settle . Massage helps in such issues significantly and if it helps you then continue . I would recommend you to follow up with your Surgeon . Best Regards , Dr.S.Tomar
