Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother is 78 years old. Today while I was taking her out for errands she told me she had a large hard knot on her left side. When we got to a place with a bathroom she lifted her shirt and the area above the belly button that would be a soft chub roll is very hard from left to right. Almost like she is tightening her ab muscles very hard but she has almost zero ab muscles. The left is further out and is more noticeable but the whole area across the whole front of her body in that chub roll area that would normally be soft is very hard. She wouldn't let me take her to the ER but I am afraid I will have to. Any clue what it could be?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Non specific swelling in abdomen cavity needs to be ruled out for malignant lesion and infective lesion, abscess formation, cystic lesion it could be anything and the only option is to get done the CT imaging study of whole abdomen, without clinical examination and imaging study it is difficult the diagnose the hardening of abdomen area.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
