What Does A Huge Hole In The Jaws Indicate?

I got my wisdom teeth removed about a month ago just under a month, and the right side has a huge gaping hole (I'm assuming the stitches just fell out) but the left side only has a tiny hole and hurts a bit when I pull my cheeks back. I'm worrried that I might have an infection.

Hi..
Thanks for writing to us..

As per your complain a huge hole at the site of wisdom tooth removal can be due to bone removal during tooth extraction leading to bony defect at the extraction site..
At times when the wisdom tooth is impacted then a considerable amount of bone needs to be removed to make the tooth unobstructed for easy removal.
This can lead to depressions at the site of extraction.
If there is no pain then there is no probability of infection..
But if on left side there is pain then it can be due to infection..
So it is advisable to get examined by your Dentist to rule out for infection..
In case if the hole is due to bony defect then you should keep patience as the area will recover slowly but still complete bone formation is not possible without a bone graft..
If there is infection then you will be advised antibiotics and gargling with antiseptic mouthwash..

Hope your query is resolved..

Regards.
