What Does A Ejection Fraction Of 15% And Less Indicate?

My son, 19, was in a horrific car accident a few months ago. He had a heart attack from the trauma. He has a stent and the lad muscle is dead. He ejection fraction is 15% or less. He had a defibrillator put in a couple of days ago. What should we expect for his future?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Thank you for the question.Your son needs proper instructions from your cardiologist regardingphysicalactivity and guarding against any form of mental and emotional stress.15% EF is pretty low. Some cardiac surgeons prefer biventricular pacing till symptoms warrant some ventricular restructuring procedure called Modified Dors' procedure- an open heart surgery wherein the dead cardiac muscle issutured underneath the endocardium of the heart. This procedure is usually undertaken if right heart is functioning well.it may combine triple artery bypass ( CABG) also.So consult an cardiac surgeon for prognosis and details. It has good outcomes for longevity
