What Does A Calcified Granuloma In Superior Segment On X-ray Mean?

Shoulder exray found, "...9mm nodule of the left upper lobe is possibly a calcified granuloma." Older exray from 2 years ago found, ".. a calcified granuloma is identified projecting in the superior segment of the left lower lobe measuring 8mm." What does all this mean? I am scheduled to get a CT scan in the Morning?

Welcome to Health care magic.

1. There are multiple granulomas as you mentioned in present and previous x-ray.
2.Granulomas are calcified lung tissue after the treatment of the infective process, other words a trace left after a healed infection.
3.Most commonly the granulomas are seen in the PTB - pulmonary tuberculosis.
4.There is nothing much one can do for this granulomas - other than monitoring for any change.
5.HRCT / CT - high resolution computer tomography / computer tomography with contrast will be best to investigate, contrast in presence of any lesion. Good luck.
