What Does A Brown Lesion On The Tongue Indicate?

I have some brown looking growth or leasion or swelling on the very back of my tongue. It almost looks like a clump of brown sugar. It might be an 1/8 high about the size of a dime. I thought I had some small particles of almonds there--- and then looked and saw this. I am 66 and in good health, I just had a physical maybe 2 months ago. I guess I will go to my Dr tomorrow--- but if it is likely go go away --- I may wait. I do have some sniffles at the moment-- and my wife has been coughing for a month now. Some sort of viral thing.
