Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have chewed tobacco for 7 years. I have been off and on for the last 2 years. Recently I switched sides which was recommended by my dentist every 2 weeks. I am now observing white patches on my cheek but the bottom teeth. They do scrape away but re-appear within a few hours! No pain and no redness! Not sensitive to anything. What would you recommend? I have only noticed it for about 4 or 5 days
Hi Thanks for choosing HCM for your query, hopefully the suggestions given will be of great helpful to you.
I have gone through the problem in your case, I am of the opinion that you are suffering from a condition which is associated with tobacco chewing and it is known as Leukoplakia.
It is a condition in which thick, white patches form on the tongue and the lining of the cheeks of the mouth.
Most patches improve on their own. However, if a biopsy comes back positive for oral cancer, the patch must be removed immediately. This can help prevent its spread.
Small patches can be removed by a more extensive biopsy. This may include laser therapy or a scalpel. Hence, you are advised to consult an oral surgeon for the treatment.
Take care, avoid using tobacco, tobacco use in any form is harmful to your health. Regards
