What Do These MRI Findings Indicate?

Can you explain my MRI results to me. Impression: 1) MRI of the (R) knee demonstrates signal irregularity involving the body and posterior horn of the lateral meniscus consistent with a complex tear. Articular cartilage in the lateral compartment demonstrate mild diffuse cartilage thinning with areas of suspected moderate to full thickness fissuring involving the mid tibial aspect of the cartilage without underlying marrow edema. 2) Articular cartilage in the patellofemoral compartment demonstrates moderate diffuse chondral thinning chondral thinning with a 8 mm focus of full-thickness lateral patellar facet cartilage loss. Mild medial compartment cartilage thinning. 3) Moderate joint effusion with evidence of synovitis. Mild tricompartmental osteophytosis.

Hi,

The report in short indicates a complex tear of lateral menisucs (a soft plate between two bones of knee joint) and related joint cartilage, along with signs of osteoarthritis (osteophytosis and effusion).

Treatment depends on degree of symptoms & movement restriction, and response to initial therapy with immobilisation and analgesics. Your orthopedist will discuss this n detail.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
