What Do Swollen Cervical And Inguinal Lymph Nodes Indicate?

Hi, I just wanted a doctor to take a look at my photo and see if there any concerns toward the physical appearance of my mouth. Have had a 0.9 Cm swollen cervical node for 2 months and now have a hard inguinal node that is getting bigger. My concern is oral cancer seeing as I have been a smoker for 15 years and a heavy smoker for 10. I drank heavily and I mean heavily for a little over a year and may have been exposed to HPV 10 years ago. I was a young teenager and never had any physical signs, I just kind of forgot about it until this all happened. Please and Thank you!

Hello,

Cervical lymphondes are not considered enlarged or abnormal unless they are over 2 cm or they are hard, irregular surface of fixed with the underlying tissues (not mobile).
A cervical lymphnode of 0.9 cm that does not have the above characteristics is not anything to worry. The inguinal lymphnodes can be at least 2 cm as well, if it is hard on touch you will need to have an ultrasound of it and then if the structure of the lymphnode in ultrasound is not normal, further tests an be considered.

I would not expect oral cancer to cause inguinal lymphodes though, but to be on the safe side, if it feels to be hard it is best to be followed up with at least an ultrasound as other conditions can cause it as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
