What Do Swelling And Inflammation In The Feet And Ankles Indicate?

My husband just had knee replacement surgery 5 days ago. Since then, he has a severe rash, redness, swelling of feet, ankles. Could this be an allergic reaction to pain meds? Also, could this be staff infection? The redness is all over his upper thighs & buttocks as well.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It could be inflammatory reaction following surgery. It’s quite common after surgery. Continue analgesics and supportive measures. You can take anti inflammatory agents like seratiopeptidase to decrease the edema and redness. Consult with your surgeon for expert opinion.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
