Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My sister has been told she will need a biopsy of spots of calcium found in her breast. She is 70 years old. I am her 71 year old sister and I am currently under treatment and have been for over a year for HER2 positive breast cancer. Is it possible that she will have cancer too?
Breast cancer chance increases when a first relative has cancer. Also calcification in the breast can be microcalcification (mostly suspicious of malignant origin) and macrocalcification (related to benign origin). If the calcifications are microcalcifications this shows the need for biopsy and chances are high it may be a cancer.
I hope I have answered to your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards,
Antoneta Zotaj General & Family Physician
