What Do Severe Muscle Cramps In The Thighs And Groin Area Indicate?

Is it normal for an extremely painful Charlie horse-lasting for 15 minutes or longer- leave a huge purple bruise (the size of a grapefruit) on the inner thigh? The Charlie horse/cramp started in the inner thigh, traveled up through the testicle and into the abdomen, resulting in nausea. Could this be a sign of a blood clot? Should a doctor perform a CT Scan?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

IN most cases, this is not seen as a reaction to a Charlie horse/muscle spasm, but it can occur in some persons if the spasm is severe. Based on your description it seems to have been severe. It would be best to be seen to rule out more serious sequelae.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
