What Do Rough Sensations On The Tongue While On Medication For COPD Indicate?

Hi, my mother is 82 and is on blood thinners, type 2 diabetic pills, has COPD, and congestive heart failure. This regime of medications has been pretty stable for her for the past 5 years or so. My question is...she is complaining that she has a rough tongue and has this gritty sand like stuff on her tongue. When I looked at it, it looks fine. I don t see anything. Is it something she is eating or her meds? It s been weeks 5 or 6 weeks that she s had it. Violet

Hello,

Antihypertensive drugs or steroidal bronchodilators may cause glossitis and candida infection may cause this problem.

Other possibilities like Sjogren's syndrome, autoimmune or connective tissue disorderly present like this.

Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Use Orolub solutions for mouth dryness. Use Saltwater gargling after inhaler usage. Better to avoid anticholinergic bronchodilators to avoid dryness.

Please consult your physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
