Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I went for a cystoscopy for a normal checkup - I have been going since 1999. A polyp was removed at that time - which I Was told had a few low grade atypical cells. I also had one removed in 2009 and 2013. At this latest exam he found no polyps but did remark that he saw a couple of red areas on the bladder wall. He also indicated that based on my history and the fact that I have had several surgeries and multiple scopes that it wasn t surprising. I have also had a kidney stone surgically removed because it was stuck in the ureter for several months without passing. My Dr. also mentioned that he was sending the urine out to be tested under a microscope( cytology I think). Is this urine test a standard procedure due to my history? Would he have done this test every time in the past or is it due to the red marks? What could the red areas (inflammation) be?
I reviewed your query and here is my advice. The red areas of inflammation are probably related to infection. I would suggest the following examinations:
- A complete blood count
- An urinalysis
- A urine culture for further evaluation
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
