I have a baby of 11months old. We cultured her urine and detect some pus cells in her sample. What is the cause of pus in this age of Kids. Doctor gave one medicine and advised to me to culture once again after a week and take scan. Please clarify the scan is sufficient for detect these problem.
Hello Thanks for query .You have not mentioned in your query whether she has fever and gets repeated episodes of UTI
Presence of pus cells in urine in a child of 11 months old suggest UTI .In pediatric age group especially in females it is usually secondary Vesico Ureteric Reflux ( VUR) and needs to be ruled out .
Consult qualified Pediatric Urologist for clinical examination and get following basic tests done to establish cause for UTI . 1) Ultrasound Scanning of abdomen and pelvis 2) Urine culture 3) Micturating Cysto urethrogram (MCU ) to rule out VUR 4) DMSA scan (if required )
Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.
