What Do Pain And Swelling In The Lower Leg Indicate?
I have been down with the flu since Wednesday and on Thursday afternoon started with lower leg pain and it has become red and swollen with pain to the point of not being able to hardly able to walk. I have been in bed since Wednesday and still not able to eat are stay up to long. Can staying in bed this long cause this problem.
Hello. I am Dr Mittal. I have read your message. I think I can help you.
Your symptoms are highly suggestive of a possible cellulitis- redness , swelling, pain and difficulty in moving the limb after a prodrome, that is restricting you to bed.
This will need to be confirmed by the local physicians in your area.
Once the diagnosis is confirmed you will need to be admitted to a hospital for intravenous antibiotics. Please do not delay this - too much damage may lead to requirement for surgery.
A complete course of antibiotics may help you recover.
I have tried to make it as simple as possible. Feel free to ask me a related query as required. Best wishes, Dr Mittal
