What Do My BP Readings Indicate?

Hello, I have hypertension, controlled, though runs 134/85 average. In the past two hours my BP went from 124/69 - 77 to 100/64 - 76 - took my regular Benicar this morning and have had two cups of coffee and only a bran honey muffin thus far today. These BP readings are atypical for me. Question is what might be causing such a drop? I do feel a little light headed as well.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Coffee normally causes an increase in blood pressure not a decline but a decrease is preferable.

If there has been any fluid loss eg urinating more than usual or not using enough fluids then this can affect blood pressure readings. If there is a significant change in salt intake, this can also play a role as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
