What Do Irregular Periods, Dark Brown Spotting And Lower Back Pain Post Induced Abortion Suggest?

Hello doctor. .I am 22 year old girl. I am having sex since I was 18 once almost every month. I started taking emergency contraceptives 8 months before. I took it almost every month after coitus. 3 months back I missed my periods nd did home pregnancy test which came out to be +ve. I took abortion pill to terminate 6 week pregnancy nd had bleeding from the next day for a week I had normal bleeding after that for next two months but periods were delayed by 1 week. I had last menstrual period from 8 may to 15 may which was less than earlier bleeding but not scanty. Now, from 22 may to 26 may I noticed dark brown colour spotting with some clots from vagina and abdomen and lower back pain. After this on 27 may I had bright red colour bleeding and abdominal cramps. I took analgesic and lower backache was relieved. Plz suggest me proper diagnosis nd treatment. Regards

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It can be either incomplete abortion OR hormonal imbalance following the pills. Need USG pelvis and blood tests for hormones as per need to confirm cause followed by specific treatment (may be D and C procedure to clean the remaining contents of cyclical hormones to regularize periods. Consult a gynecologist for a more personal advise after physical examination.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
