What Do Episodes Of Palpitations In A Teenager Indicate?

Hi, my name is Christian and I am 18 years old. I recently have been having a weird feeling in my chest and my heart has been beating fast and then it stops for a second and when it does it feels like an adrenaline rush every time it does it. Do you have any idea of what it could be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Besides occasional fast heart rate you have no other complaints. Hence this type of presentation could be from anxiety or stress induced at such a young age that can lead reflux fast heart rate that is normal physiological response.

But before labelling it as stress induced, rule out the cardiac causes if present by:

- Auscultation
- EKG
- Echocardiography

If any specific cause found, then it will be treated accordingly. Consult physician or cardiologist nearby for examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
