What Do Elevated Systolic Blood Pressure Levels Indicate?

Yes, Thanks. I am a 62 yo F with HTN. Am on Ramipril 5 mg bid. Just started HCTZ 12.5 mg 3 days ago. No change in BP noted yet. Seeing systolic ranges of 154-166 and diastolics mid-eighties. Was told to watch my BP for 2 weeks. I m worried about the high systolics. I am not overweight. BMI about 21. Advice?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello.Systolic BP of 154-166 is not very high and may be normal for your age. As age progresses the systolic BP tends to be slightly higher when compared to the young age. This is because there will be narrowing of the vessels and that so much pressure is required to push the blood. Regards- Dr Sanjay Kini
